Every April, I find the topic of education lingers in my mind. Maybe it’s reviewing applications for our scholarships. Perhaps it’s because of my years coordinating hundreds of financial literacy classes jam packed into one week at Metro Bank. Whatever it is, each spring brings violets to my yard and education to the brain.
I recently returned to my old stomping grounds of Shippensburg University (woo!) to speak to the PRSSA chapter. You might have even met some of the students I was speaking to – a few attended our January meeting!
I’m so impressed by the generation coming up behind my own. They are resourceful, they ask great questions and have shown such resilience after COVID took so much from them.
I remember the stress of April and May as a graduating senior quite well. There was such pressure to do well on the last few assignments while balancing applying for jobs AND hearing about classmates getting job offers before eventually receiving my own (thanks Jason!). In fact, it was right around this time 12 years ago that I attended my very first PPRS meeting.
So if you happen to be reading this and you are a student, relax!!! It’s going to be fine! And if you happen to be a fellow professional, consider what you can do today to give back and support those coming up behind us. I know without folks giving me a chance to prove myself along the way and the amazing mentorship I’ve found in this group, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
