Since 1997, Lori Baker Pizzarro has been the sole proprietor of her own business, The Design Department, a full-service design firm located in Mechanicsburg. Possessing a keen business sense and persistent attention to detail, she conducts all operations of her firm, even as she works her magic as an award-winning graphic designer and layout artist. As many of her fellow PPRS members will attest, Lori is a “giver” by nature who is always willing to share what she has learned with colleagues facing the daunting challenge of starting a business of their own.

Lori has created an extensive portfolio of professional client work, consistently combining message with visual in the highest traditions of Public Relations. She has a solid reputation for producing highly effective content and design for publications, print advertisements and websites, including annual reports, magazines, newsletters and brochures to billboards, postcards, ads, websites — and everything in between.

She manages a diverse group of accounts including several non-profit organizations, industry associations, retail stores, medical firms, political campaigns, PR firms and technology and software companies.

After graduating with honors from the Communications/Journalism program at HACC, Lori enrolled in Shippensburg University where she earned a BA in Public Relations/Communications (again with honors) with an emphasis in graphic design. Lori has been recognized with numerous awards throughout her career including multiple IABC Capital Awards and PRSA Central Pennsylvania Chapter Keystone Awards.

While Lori’s experience, client list and award-winning work are certainly admirable and set her apart from others in the communications profession, it is her community volunteerism and willingness to give of her time and talents that make her the winner of the 2017 Ernest R. McDowell Award for Excellence in Public Relations.

In addition to her ongoing volunteer work at Shippensburg University, where she’s served as Alumni Association Board Member and on the Foundation Annual Fund Leadership Team, Lori has donated her time and talent to such organizations as United Way of the Capital Area, Venture Club, American Cancer Society, and PA CASA – Pennsylvania Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Last but not least, Lori been and continues to be an active member of PPRS. Since joining in 1995 Lori has served on numerous committees and was an officer for four years, including society president in 2005. She has designed every annual membership directory since joining the society and develops special-purpose pieces as needed. Her most recent work includes designing the PPRS 65th Anniversary logo and the redesigned PPRS logo that accompanied it.
