We all have choices. Over the course of this year, we have discussed many choices that PR professionals face. Whether to plan for our careers, and how. Whether to build a personal brand or not, and how. Whether to believe a news story or not. Even whether to laugh at a joke before you give a news brief about a prison riot or not.

Sometimes our choices are optional, and sometimes they are forced upon us – but in the end, we have a choice.

Next month’s meeting will provide another look at choices as we discuss the transition from company to consultant. Why – and how – do some PR pros make the jump? What insight can they offer those who may consider the career transition?

There are a multitude of reasons that PR pros enter the world of consulting: to be their own boss; to continue a career with a more flexible schedule; or to better accommodate long-time clients with whom they’ve built meaningful relationships.

There are equally as many reasons that companies choose to work with consultants – to supplement internal staff; to provide expertise and strategic direction without the commitment of a full-time position; or for budgetary reasons.

On June 29, three panelists will share their journeys into consulting and how companies can benefit from the help of consultants. 

We will hear from Jack Sherzer, a reporter-turned-PR pro who tells client stories through journalistic-quality prose; from Stephanie Shirley, a driven pro who chose the consulting route early on, earning clients on the local and national level; and from Leslie Amoros, a strategist who leveraged her 20 years of corporate, non-profit and government PR experience into a thriving consulting business.
