Photography always has been an important element in the practice of public relations, and in today’s social media environment, photos — and the cameras that record them — have become ubiquitous.
The upside for PR pros? Companies turn to their PR departments when they need photos.
The downside? Companies turn to their PR departments — even though the majority of people in the profession have little photography experience.
Unfortunately, many organizations have small or nonexistent budgets to pay for these services, and must resort to shooting with their own consumer-level gear — whether with an entry-level digital SLR, a point-and-shoot, or a smartphone.
During this “working dinner” (bring your camera!), Roger Baumgarten — 15-year PPRS Member, 25-year media relations veteran, and Owner of Roger That Photography — will take you through the basics of shooting photos. He will provide you with useful tips — covering exposure, composition, and more — to help you think outside the green box (that setting on the camera dial that does all the thinking) and be more creative with your shoots without busting your budget.
As part of this interactive session, please send a photo to rogerthatphoto@comcast.net that you’ve shot for your job, and Roger will provide feedback about the images and what you can do to make them better.
RSVP by 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 to Joan Nissley at zlogar22@comcast.net (Subject line: PPRS RSVP). If paying by credit card, register online using the form below.
